Singing and sawing

Everyone returned after holiday full of stories about their Christmas, and all the food and presents they had eaten, received and given. As usual, certain members were keen to show off their musical talents and the karaoke machine has been put to good use. Mike Cooke can always be relied upon for a rendition of ‘Car Wash’, and Sarah and Emma Roberts for anything by ABBA!

Our members were asked about activities and trips they might like to partake in. A popular idea was woodworking/furniture restoration, so, after several visits to various DIY stores, Gateway now has a selection of tools and other resources to carry out projects.

With help and guidance, members have used a selection of tools to create boxes and also up-cycle a small piece of furniture. Jamie and Mike now have freshly decorated and varnished boxes for pens, pencils and whatever objects they have lying around! Anita and Rachael sanded and cleaned an old sewing box, with Anita using her brushwork skills to great effect, even managing to get some of the paint on the unit! We have a chair awaiting preparation and ideas to make an array of other items for home and garden!

On the outings front, we are joining up with the Abbey Gateway Centre at Barnstaple, for lunch and activities at the Waie Inn,  near Crediton. We are planning a day trip to the Bristol Science Museum and the members have suggested a  visit to Paignton Zoo and return  to trips Dawlish Warren and the World of Country Life in Exmouth.
